How Repair PDF works

These steps mirror the workspace higher on this page. They are written as a numbered outline so readers, search engines, and assistants can restate the flow without guessing.

   Upload a PDF

   Choose a PDF from your device. The file must start with a PDF header and stay within the size limit. Encrypted files are rejected.

   We check the structure

   A file that already opens cleanly is left byte-for-byte unchanged, including any digital signature.

   Recoverable damage is rebuilt

   Broken cross-reference tables and similar structural problems are rewritten. Page content, images, and forms are kept when those objects can still be read.

4. 4

   Download only a usable PDF

   The repaired file is opened and checked before download. If pages would be dropped, or the result still will not open, nothing is saved.

Will a normal PDF be changed?

No. If the structure already checks out, the download is the original file, unchanged.

Can every corrupted PDF be fixed?

No. Truncated objects and missing page data cannot be reconstructed. Those uploads fail with an explanation and no download.

Are encrypted PDFs supported?

No. Unlock the file first with Unlock PDF, then repair if it still will not open.

Does repair redraw the pages?

No. It rebuilds the PDF structure. Text, images, annotations, and forms stay when those objects can be read. A repaired file can invalidate a digital signature because the bytes change.
